Reviews
We had the Vegan set menu and wine pairing. Unbelievably good. Great service, cool atmosphere, and very accommodating. I feel like a lot of these bad reviews are Bellevue folks.
To start off, we all had some cocktails that were each lovely. Our server was super nice. I really enjoyed the food here, particularly the crab appetizer. The dishes were special and unique, and I did not feel like I left hungry as some of the previous reviews have said. The one thing I will say, though, is that the service was on the slower side, which is a hard pill to swallow after having paid a 22% service charge and your first dish doesn’t come until 8:30. We had a 7:45 PM reservation and did not finish the meal until 10:30.We were the last ones at the restaurant, and one of our members had to leave early because it was simply taking so long (about 30 mins between courses). I really wanted to try their special dessert, but by the end it was so late and things were moving slowly that I didn’t feel like I could order it. All in all, it was a nice dinner and the food was really good. But the experience was not as incredible as I was hoping!
I've been here more than once and reviewing based on consistency. Did the tasting menu with add ons and the wine pairings as well as ala carte in the bar a few times. Both experiences were awesome. Great playful cocktails! And the food! Awesome flavors coming out. Never left hungry. Wonderful joint in WC.
Delicious food, albeit very small portions and terribly over priced, even on the a la carte menu. But what really ruined the end of an otherwise great evening was the SURPRISE 22% automatic "Service Charge" they added to an already outrageously high bill. But wait, there's more! Because TOMO, in their infinite business wisdom, decided to call this 22% add-on a "Service Charge" to help support their employees (they said it's not a tip, but also said no tip is necessary after their fee, so maybe it is a tip???), it's considered additional revenue and not a gratuity after the total amount of the bill. According to TOMO this fee is not a "Gratuity", so they needed to add sales tax to the service charge, so in essence the "service charge / fee / gratuity" or whatever you want to call it is now 24.2%. Sure feels wrong to me. When I mentioned all of this to the the Manager all she said was that's the way it is, and I should take it up with WA State. Wow! What a condescending response from management to pass the buck and not take responsibility for their own poor business decisions. While the chef may be a brilliant artist at cooking, his business acumen, or whomever he has running his business is unfortunately misguided, and the customer pays for it. Bottom line is this... come prepared to not only pay a lot for dinner, but get ready to pay much much more than what you think the bill's going to be. Oh, one more thing... somehow they must have forgotten to mention their automatic service charge to mention anywhere on their website. So much for transparency!!!
Vibe- great upscale hip vibe, no complaints.
Food- small dishes, cooked perfectly, we were adequately full when we left.
Service- it was good but not quite 5-star hotel or fancy restaurant in a big city caliber. It was a casual/cool/pleasant interaction. Upon check in and seating we were given directions to a closet where we could hang our coats, but no one offered to take our coats for us. We had to ask another staff member if we could order some drinks after sitting for about 15m We would have tipped 20%
Overall: We weren’t really sure what the hype and long reservation wait were for to be honest. We both agreed d good food but it seemed overpriced since we spent $300 for two people and we’re not sure what made it so expensive. They have a set menu but charge you extra for bread. They charge you 22% for tip then tax you on that charge so be prepared for a 30% addition to your bill. We just feel like we overpaid and probably will not visit again.
I've been eager to visit TOMO for a while now and to be honest, it was probably not worth the hype nor the long reservation wait.
I thought the atmosphere, and service were great. No complaints. The time between plates took a while, but other than the long dinner service, it was fine. I love the bar area and we had dinner for 4 people so company was great. Took 2 hours from beginning to end.
Food is where I felt could have been improved. I thought that for the price, you'd either get decent portions or extremely elevated and "complex" flavors which the menu failed on. There are 5 dishes and I only enjoyed two of them that felt unique or tasty. The middle 3 (fish, lamb and salad) were all average. We didn't get the wine pairing but thought the cocktails were good. Not mindblowing, but good. Overall, it was $85 pp plus $20 for each drink and we didn't get any add-ons. There's an auto gratuity of 22%.
Big shout out to Madison for their incredible customer service! They were friendly and accommodating after I thought I was not going to be able to make my reservation due to an emergency. I ended up being able to make it and boy am I glad I did! Our party had an incredible meal complete with wine, cocktails and dessert. Cannot recommend this place enough!!
What a divine meal! We were delighted by the food, the atmosphere and the service. Thank You for creating a space in Seattle where I can dress casual and eat and drink the very best without feeling judged.
